ADD A QUARTER RULER PLUS - 6 AND 12 INCHES
Add A Quarter Ruler Plus with its specially designed lip, automatically adds the customary 1/4" seam allowance to any angle and provides a straight edge for your rotary cutter. The tapered edge is used as a straight edge for folding back the foundation. This is such a handy tool to have in your sewing kit. We love it and find it invaluable for foundation piecing but also very handy with hand and machine piecing.
Using the Add A Quarter Plus in Foundation Piecing:
- The Add A Quarter Plus allows you to use your rotary cutter when foundation piecing to trim excess fabric and provide a straight line for placement of the next fabric piece.
- Place #1 fabric right side up on the back side of the pattern.
- Place tapered edge, flat side down on the line. Fold back and crease with finger.
- Flip Add A Quarter Plus over and place 1/4" lip down next to the paper fold. Trim using rotary cutter.
How to use the Add A Quarter Plus with templates:
- The Add A Quarter Plus combines the speed of rotary cutting quilt pieces with the accuracy of using templates. Prepare your templates by tracing each pattern piece, on the seam line, onto template plastic or freezer paper. Carefully cut out each template. Remember, you will be cutting out the templates WITHOUT the seam allowance.
- Layer fabric on cutting mat - you can stack 4 to 6 layers at a time. Place template on fabric, leaving at least 1/4" fabric margin around all sides (more for acute angles). Be sure to line up the marked grain line with the grain of the fabric.
- Position Add A Quarter Plus (lip side down) snugly against one edge of template Cut with rotary cutter. Rotate Add A Quarter Plus around the template, cutting all sides.
- For hand piecing, place the clear, 1/4" lip of Add A Quarter Plus on outside edge of the fabric piece, using pencil, mark seam line.
- When using the Add A Quarter ruler in Foundation Piecing it allows you to use your rotary cutter when foundation piecing to trim excess fabric and provide a straight line for placement of the next fabric piece.
